Youk wins Gold Glove

By David Lefort, Boston.com Staff

Kevin Youkilis of the Red Sox has been selected as the first baseman on the 2007 American League Gold Glove Team.

More to come

Schilling set to re-sign with Sox

Veteran right-hander reaches one-year deal for $8 million

ESPN.com reported on Tuesday that Schilling and the team have reached agreement on an $8 million base salary with an additional $2 million in incentives. The deal is pending a physical on the right-hander, who will turn 41 on Nov. 14.

Red Sox spokesman John Blake said the team had nothing to report.

Schilling, on his "38pitches" blog, said talks have been progressing.

"Talks with the Red Sox are moving," Schilling wrote. "[General manager] Theo [Epstein] and I have spoken multiple times daily over the past week and given the current situation I am feeling very confident that we will be able to finalize a 1 year contract to allow us a chance to finish our career as members of the Red Sox organization.

"There are some things to iron out and details that must be finalized for both sides but barring something unforseen [sic] or outrageously odd happening I feel very comfortable that I will finish my career here," he added.

Schilling underwent an MRI on his right shoulder on Tuesday as part of his physical, Boston.com reported. Schilling missed a month of this past season with right shoulder tendinitis.

Not often will I snag a complete article written by someone else..but today..well with this kind of good news I feel its justified.

I think its great that the game pieces on the 2008 team are starting to fall into place.

I am sure some feel that Curt should go and plenty that he will stay. Fact is he help lead us to our 2004 World Series win and was a help in the 2007 win.

Boston is now his home and it is right that, if he wants, he should finish his career here.

Here is a heart felt CONGRATULATION on being Re-signed to CURT that may be a bit premature.

NOW LETS SIGN MIKE LOWELL!!!

UPDATE!!!! Its a done deal!!!! Curt will be back next year !!!!! GREAT NEWS!!!!

PSST....Wanna hear a joke or two????

On the first day of school a first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Yankees fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Yankees fans. Wanting to impress their teacher, everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise, "Janie, why didn't you raise your hand?" "Because I'm not a Yankees fan," she replied. The teacher, still shocked, asked, "Well, if you are not a Yankees fan, then who are you a fan of?" "I am a Red Sox fan, and proud of it," Janie replied. The teacher could not believe her ears. "Janie, why are you a Red Sox fan?" "Because my mom is a Red Sox fan and my dad is Red Sox fan, so I'm a Red Sox fan too!" "Well,” said the teacher in an obviously annoyed tone, "that is no reason for you to be a Red Sox fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom was an idiot and your dad were a moron, what would you be then?" "Then," Janie smiled, "I'd be a Yankees fan."
-----------------------------------------------------
A family of New York Yankee fans headed out one Saturday to shop for the youngest boy's birthday. While in the sports shop the son picks up a Red Sox jersey and says to his older sister, "I've decided to become a Red Sox fan and I would like this Boston Red Sox jersey for my birthday." His big sister is outraged by this and promptly whacks him upside his head and says, "Go talk to mother." Off goes the little lad with the jersey in hand and finds his mother. "Mom?" "Yes, son?" "I've decided I'm going to be a Red Sox fan and I would like this jersey for my birthday." The mother is outraged at this, promptly whacks him around the head and says, "Go talk to your father!" Off he goes with the Red Sox jersey in hand and finds his father. "Dad?" "Yes, son?" "I've decided I'm going to be a Red Sox fan and I would like this jersey for my birthday." The father is outraged and promptly whacks his son in the back of his head and says, "No son of mine is ever going to be seen in THAT!" About half an hour later they're all back in the car and heading towards home. The father turns to his son and says "Son, I hope you've learned something today?" The son says, "Yes, Dad, I have." "Good! And what is it you learned?" The son replies, "I've only been a Red Sox fan for an hour and I already hate you Yankee bastards!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Four baseball fans - a Cubs fan, a Cardinals fan, a Red Sox fan, and a Yankees fan - are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves his team more. The Cubs fan insists he is the most loyal. "This is for the Cubs!" he yells, and jumps off the side of the mountain. Not to be outdone, the Cardinals fan shouts, "This is for the Cardinals!" and throws himself off the mountain. The Red Sox fan is next to profess his love for his team. He yells, "This is for everyone!" and pushes the Yankees fan off the mountain.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A Red Sox fan liked to amuse himself by scaring every Yankees fan he saw strutting down the street in an obnoxious NY pinstripe shirt. He would swerve his van as if to hit them, then swerve back just missing them. One day while driving along, he saw a priest. He thought he would do a good deed, so he pulled over and asked the priest, "Where are you going, Father?" "I'm going to give Mass at St. Francis church, about two miles down the road," replied the priest. "Climb in, Father. I'll give you a lift!" The priest climbed into the passenger seat, and they continued down the road. Suddenly, the driver saw a Yankees fan walking down the road, and he instinctively swerved as if to hit him. But, as usual, he swerved back onto the road just in time. Even though he was certain that he had missed the guy, he still heard a loud THUD. Not knowing where the noise came from, he glanced in his mirrors but still didn't see anything. He then remembered the priest, and he turned to the priest and said, sorry Father, I almost hit that Yankees fan." "That's OK," replied the priest "I got him with the door."

Feel free to pass these jokes around!!!

A-ROD SIGNS WITH RED SOX!!!!!!

(Photo borrowed from theremyreport.com Thanks Jerry!!)
""""""New Flash......Boston Mass..... Orson Wells reporting>>>>
Today, October 31, 2007
Scott Boras and Alex Rodriguez along with the front office of the Boston Red Sox have announced a 10 year $250 million deal which will bring the much publicized 3rd base man to bean town.
A-ROD's decision to opt out of his Yankees contract led to a bidding war between clubs yet to be named.
All the details of the singing and incentive package is yet to be released.

Across Boston loyal Red Sox fans have been jumping off of bridges into the Charles River with a bus driver taking a fully loaded bus into the river at noon today. 42 people perished. 11 people have jumped off the Prudential building, 16 people have drown themselves in Boston Harbor and reports of traffic jams keep coming in as people seek to flee from Boston.
It is truly a grim day in Bean Town.... More to follow....
This is your reporter on the scene, Orson Wells, signing off......""""""""

OK FOLKS>>RELAX IT WAS JUST A HOAX.......we hope!!!!!! In the same fashion as Orson Well broad cast of 'The War Of the Worlds' way back on
Oct. 30, 1938.

WE DID IT!! 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPS THE BOSTON RED SOX!!!

(Photo borrowed from Boston.com...thanks guys!!)

WOW..... I really do not know where to start.
This team is AWESOME!! the front office is AWESOME!!!! Tito is AWESOME!!!

I am sure I speak for all of the long time RED SOX nation members ( mostly we fans of whom were members before the moniker was created!!) THANK YOU!!!
NO more curse...no more drought....no more head hanging....just the joy of being a Sox Fan!

What a post season. First a sweep of the red hot Angels. Then a 1-3 4 game comeback against the surging Indians..then the 4 game World Series sweep of the highly vaulted Rockies.

First thing that comes to mind is...WHAT WILL I DO NOW??? What will all of us do???
I have been so engrossed in the team this year, from attending Spring Training games to being glued to mlb.com for every game and then being glued to the TV for the post Season.

I'll have more free time but I know I will be busy analyzing the 2007 season and keeping an eagle eye for all the changes that may and will occur during the post season.

Will the Sox offer Mikey Lowell what he needs???? Will he bend a bit to stay at Fenway???

Will the Sox offer Shilling what he wants or needs to stay in Boston????

Will the Sox go after A-ROD now that he has split from the Yankers???
( Please note... I think it was a real shitty thing that that jackass agent of his
Scott Boras leaked the info out so that it would overshadow the WS or at least be included in it....pure grandstanding from a guy who thinks only of his wallet and can give a hoot about the fans.)

Should the Sox have a brain fart and go after A-ROD he could play as a shortstop. Which was what he was before the Yankers soiled him. Sorry Lugo, I do like you but A-rod is a wee bit better....

Time will tell what will happen.
We have to trust the front office for so far their leadership has given us fan a WS twice in 4 years and thats not to shabby.
Also I swear never to second guess Tito again!!! For all the times we thought he was loosing his mind he proved to be correct...... so much for arm chair coaching!!!

So I hope to have more posts on our post season soon...thing are a bit nasty for me now....
I would like to say THANK YOU to the RED SOX for entering the post season and winning the World Series as this has given me somthing to look forward to and help me through a difficult time.

GO SOX!!! IN 2008!!!

PS>>>> when Gagne was spotted warming up in the bullpen during game 4 of the WS, did any one else soil their shorts with the thought of him coming to the mound????

It ani't over till its over....

Take a look at the picture I posted in the header.
At the top of the page.
The one showing Fenway all decked out for the ALCS.
I am so proud that out boys have made it so far.
I , like most of the RNS have spent many a day and night worried over the regular season that we would not get to this point.
We ended the regular season 2 games up on the Yankers.
We swept the Angles.
We took our Division Pennant.
Now we are down 1-3 to the ghastly tribe that has only one thing in mind...to hang the scalps of every Red Sox player from their tepee/lodge poles!!!
Tonight might be the closing song on our 2007 season, maybe it wont.
Lots of talk on blogs and web pages how our boys are choking, not trying, throwing in the towel.. the rants go on and on.
I KNOW they are trying their best.
Each game they go out and play to win.
I have faith and knowledge that each Red Sox player is giving 100% or more in and effort to win.
Tonight, Game 5 of the ALCS , the Master & Commander, Josh Beckett is back on the mound.
I wish him Godspeed.
When we win tonight, then its another game and it will be back in BEAN TOWN.
If we lose tonight, then it was a great year. A year with many Red Sox records and a great out look for 2008!!!
PS.........To Theo Epstein and John W. Henry!!! GIVE Michael Averett Lowell HIS CONTRACT NOW!!!!
GO SOX!!!!

Master & Commander

(Globe Staff Photo / Barry Chin)
Game 1 ALDS 4-0 Sox over Angels.

Josh Beckett was near perfect.

He could have only topped this outing by pitching a no-hitter.

Not only was he a Master of his pitches, he Commanded them with pin point precision.
He knocked out 19 batters in a row after a leadoff single by Chone Figgins.

Of his 108 pitches last night, 83 were thrown for strikes, 24 batters either took or swung at a first-pitch strike.
8 Strike outs...ZERO walks......

He pitch 9 innings, going the distance... and gave us a short game, only 2 hours and 27 minutes.

For me , this game brought back memories of Luis Tiant with his shut out of the Reds way back in 1975's game 1 of the World Series. ( I truly bled red when we failed that year.) I remember listening to the games on WTIC while my Dad would drag me to the hardware store on weekends. No he's not a sports fan at all. Don't know where I get it from... the milkman maybe???

This was Beckett's 2nd consecutive shut out in post season and has now a total of 3 post season shut-outs. ( He pitched a complete game in game 6 of the 2003 World Series at Yankee Stadium to shut out the Yankees in a 2-0 win which also clinched the World Series for the Marlins).

Beckett had a bit of help on the defensive side with some great stops/catches from Crisp, Lowell and Ellsbury. Ellsbury made a spectacular sliding catch in the 9th at left field. Glad he was placed in left for Manny during the 9th. As I know Manny would have dived to catch the ball, I would hate to see him injured.
The Sox bats hit Lackey early with a 1 out homer in the 1st by Yuke. In the 3rd inning Yuke doubled just ahead of Papi's homer. Manny drew a walk, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and reached home on a single by Lowell.

All in all a good night in Bean Town.

Dice-K on the mound Friday night at home at 8:30. Eat that sushi Dice and step up to the plate... time to earn some of the money!!!

No pre-game predictions for me.. I'm just going to sit back, watch the games and enjoy how our "boy's of summer" have become the "men of October".

Celebration Tonight?? YES!!!! HAPPY DANCE!!!!

Oh man.
What a night!!
First I miss the entire game except for the very last Twins out!!! Today is my daughters 13th birthday!! So we were celebrating at my parents house. I was watching a bit on my cell but that was just the score..
Thanks Sox!! You gave her a great birthday present!
The game......I can watch the replay on MLB.TV so I will not talk about that now.
After doing all the required Dad stuff after the 10 seconds of the Sox game I got to watch, I finally was able to watch the whole 10th inning of the MFY vs O's.
Chumpies loaded the bases and could not score.. Nice watching A-Rude standing on third with his mouth hanging open with no place to go!!
O's also load the bases with 1 out Millar comes up. I was hoping he would drive in a run. How poetic would that be?? I great ex red sox players nailing the lid on the coffin on the yankees.
Well Kevin tried but struck out...2 down up comes Melvin Mora ( Red Sox fans new hero) who lays down a bunt along 3rd base bring in Tike Redman.

I'm buying my 2007 American League East Champ Hat right now!!

I can not begin to tell you how thrilled I am!!

GO SOX!!!

Celebration Tonight?? NOPE!!!!

Ok Red Sox Nation.....
Put the champagne back in the fridge...stow the special Oktoberfest beer back in the cooler... we came up a bit short tonight.

Beckett has an off night and our bats did not sing well enough. Leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth hurt a heck of a lot.
We really need to work on that LOB stuff one day!!

Does it matter... not really as we are in the playoffs!!!! That's what counts.
Sure I would have loved to see Beckett get number 21. But it was not meant to be.

Even Lowell was not hot tonight..

Tomorrow is another day and we will see our Sox rise up at Fenway and play the greatest game in the world!! Dice-K is going to serve up some wasabi coated sushi to the Twins !!! They will be to busy fanning their burning bung holes to swing the bats!!

Magic number is still at 2. Three games left at Fenway!! I can not think of a better place for our boys in their red socks to play!!

GO SOX!!!

Celebration Tonight??? Maybe!!

Will we be seeing this kind of celebrating tonight???
It's possible!!!

Going into tonights game our magic number is 2 for the Division Title.

If the Sox beat the Twins and the Yankees loose to the Rays we will have clinched the Eastern Division!!!

Pitching for the Sox tonight is Mr. Joshua Patrick Beckett 20-6 ERA 3.14.

Pitching for the Twins we have Boof Bonser
( with a name like that he gets no MR. ) 7-12 ERA 5.09.

Well not much of a match up there Boof's ERA for September with three games is a wopping 11.17!!!
Joshua Patrick's ERA for September with 4 games is a wee 2.25

OK...I bet the farm on Joshua Patrick tonight!!!

Looking at the MFY at the Rays.....

Pitching for the Yankers is Philip J. Hughes ( No Yankee player gets a MR. ) 4-3 ERA 4.80.
Pitching for the Rays is Mr. Scott Edward Kazmir ( Rays players get the MR. for scrappyness) 13-9 ERA 3.54.
Hughes ERA for September with 4 games is 3.18.
Kazmir ( who we Sox fans know all too well) whos Era for September is 2.16 with 4 games.
Kazmir faced the Yankers 3 times , 2 in April ( both losses ) and once in July for a win.
While Hughs has faced the Rays only once in August for the loss.

This matchup is on the fence for me. Kazmir's win was in July when the Yankers started their surge. So he might be able to shut them down if his control is spot-on. He did not win any games against the Sox.
Hughs was called up in August and has done a good job on the mound.

So Sox fans.. lets send positive vibes to the Rays so the Kazmir can get the ball dancing and the Ray's bats get so hot that they bust into flames with ball contact!!!

Also lets send good vibes to Lugo and hope his bat starts to sing ;>)

GO SOX!!!

Great Night in Boston

Wow..nice night in bean town. The Athletics are in town for two games.
Tonight we see Manny back in the line up!!!! HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE!! Also YOUK did a wee bit of batting . It was really good to see them back in the game. My nerves are a bit calmer now.
Weird event of the game was in the 7th A's pitcher Lenny DiNardo chose to intentionally walk Veratek to get to Ellsbury. Bad move for the A's ..God move for us!!! Ellsbury whacked in an RBI. I guess that the A's scouts have packed it up for the year?
Even Gagne did ok and pitched 2/3 of an inning and his buddy Paps came out to close down the 8th with a 1 pitch pop out.
Corey pitch in the ninth giving up 2 runs and having a rought time of it. But the night was saved when the Mighty Mite snagged a pop-up behind his head for out number 2 and then fired it to second to Lugo for the game winning out!!
Final score Sox 7 A's 3.
Yes we can all sleep a bit better tonight!!

I AM DOING THE HAPPY DANCE!!!!!

Way to go Gagne

This man is Boston's Public Enemy Number One !!!

Well, he did it again. Gagne lost another game for the Sox.

Game was going fine Lester pitched 6.2 innings allowing 1 run. Manny D. comes in for the final out of the 7th. In the eight, Gagne gets the first 2 batters out then allows a hit, 3 walks then another hit. He gave 2 runs on a plater to the Jays.

Lugo gets a homer in the ninth but then the Soxs are halted and we have yet another loss 3-4.

Now I am 100% convinced that Gagne is working for the Yankers as a 5th column agent. The Yankers have killed Baltimore 12-0 ...so we will wake up on Wednesday morning with only a 2.5 game lead..

UGH.. I have such a headache now.....

Now for somthing different..

SOCCER!!!!
Here is a great was to help forget my Red Sox woe's.
1. Volunteer to coach a U-12 boys soccer team
2. Spend hours on the phone hooking up with kids parents.
3. Plan for hours how to run your practice.
4. Have a practice day and watch your well planed drill fail miserably.

Well. its not that bad. This is my 12th year of coaching Soccer. This year I have only 1 team. Some years I was Head coach for two teams and an assistant coach for a third. Yes, I was busy. Every week night book and Saturdays at the field were an all day occasion.

Tonight for an 1 and 1/2 hours I will have the rapped attention of eleven boys aged 10 and 11. As it is a rec team, lets just say that attendance is hardly ever at 100%. So I press forward and gauge each childed to see what position the will be their strongest at, try to keep their interest in a variety of drill and lift their failing spirit's once the Florida heat bakes the top of their heads.

For 1-1/2 hours today I will not think of the Sox at all....something I really need at the moment.

Dear Blue Jay's,

We, the nation of Yanker lovers would like to thank you from the bottom of our nefarious little hearts for beating the Red Sox.
We are also pleased to say that all Blue Jay fans are now Yankee fans as your club is helping us reach the AL Pennant.
We will collect your souls on October 1st.

Thank you,
The Evil Empire

Thats finally over.

After much teeth gnashing, lip biting and nail gnawing the regular season games between the Sox and Yankers is finally over. It did not end with the final three game sweep we all hoped for. Instead we lost 2 out of three. We are still 4.5 games ahead of them and seem destined for another post-season match up.

The last three game found me plastered to my chair, bleeding with the team and rejoicing also.

There were some fantastic plays on both sides and some heartbreaking events too.

On Friday Dice-k did well ...up to loading the bases and then Timlin let 2 runs in. What Okie-dokie and Paps did...well I need some pain killers before I go into that.

Saturdays game , our win, was great as all wins are. Hinske's running through Posada will go down in Red Sox history!

Sundays loss was a classic match up between two great pitchers...except for one pitch. And this game did high light a big problem. That the Captain is in an offensive downward spiral. Can't say too much about it as we are all just fans and really do not know whats is going on. Some say he is tired...I hope its just a slump and he will climb out of it . Captain..I'm sending as many good vibes your wayas possible!!! Lowell's Home Run off of Joba the Schmuck was worth the loss. The unbroken Hut, who prior to this game had no un-earned runs. Well we got a homer off of him!! ESPN cut real close on him about 45 seconds after the homer and it looked like he was about to cry. The ever yankee-loving espn jackasses cut real quick from that.

In closing, yes we got stomped on...closing out the regular season with 8 wins and the Yankers having 10. But when it is all said and done they are the Yankees, a bunch of rude , loud, obnoxious players and fans , players who act like they are god gift to man-kind and fans who think they deserve every Pennant and World Series till the end of time.
While we are the RED SOX!!!! We fight hard, stick with our team through thick and thin and do it all with a smile! Enough said!!
GO SOX!!!

So numb :>(

It's 11:55 pm Friday Sept 14. The Sox had the game..then lost it. Final 7-8 Yankers. I'm just numb.... don't know what to say.... Think I'll go hang out in a cemetery so I wont have to hear the gloating Yankers fans.

Thursday, September 13, 2007

THANK YOU SOOOOO Much Blue Jays!!!

Had a bit of baseball withdrawal with the Sox all at home tonight eating popcorn and watching reruns of the Three Stooges... So I decide to watch the Yankers and Jays go at it. I tuned in at the top of the 8th , game tied 1-1. OK, I'll watch this, Yankers just might get beat. For my efforts I got to see A-Rod strike out , the Jays shut the Yankers down for those two innings and in the 9th they manufactured the game winning by playing some good old fashioned baseball.
Yes, Tonight was a GOOD NIGHT!!!
Yankers come to Bean Town 5.5 back.....
Ya got a love it!!!!
GO SOX!!

Watch out Yankees ! PAPI's Back !

Missed the first 1-1/2 innings due to the power outtage from the wacky thunderstorms we get here in Florida. So I missed Lester's meltdown. When your starter is on the ropes in the first inning and can't get off them then you konw you have some trouble. Tavarez did a nice job getting 9 outs with one strike out and one walk. Manny D. and Okie were flawless and Paps walk away with the win . Not many strike outs to night as Lester had the most with 5 and a game total of only 7 so a big round of applause to the defense.
The mighty mite, Pedroia was stellar as usual. Drew is hitting like he was in a National League Stadium 2 hits and 2 walks. That is VERY nice to see.
The night really belongs to big PAPI. All the runs were his and all the rbi's were his. He has really stepped up his game in the last week and I for one am very please. Two big homers and the stay at 5 games over the MFY.

OK beantown....you ready for them??? Let's get our game on and sweep 'em!!
GO SOX!!!

Oh my achin' Drew.....

Slug fest in Fenway!!! Bats and balls flying everywhere.....Mike Lowell gets 4 hits..almost had five!!! Congrats Mikey.
The hit and home run god even let J.D.Drew in on the fun! I almost fell of my chair when he connected with his 2nd hit. Then a homer!?!?! whats going on??? I'm heading out to get a lotto ticket. May be I can get some luck too!!
Youk just short on two hits that with a bit of tail wind would have been homers. Bummer...
Pedroia smacked a homer into the monster seats....very nice!!
Pappi and Ellsbury also hit homers...love the Pappi swing and Ellsbury, well what can I say...you sooo good, man!!
Condolences to Wake... got a bit beat up... at least the game will not go against your record.
Gagne just had to give up a run... I still think that he is a sleeper agent for the Yankers...
Series against the Rays ends tomorrow ( wed 12th) Heres to another victory then.

Blue Tuesday

Have not done much to this blog as I thought I would. I guess it's the down deep ache I feel every year. That the Sox will flounder again. As I do not want to be a negative, moaning blogger, I just have not posted. So, Lets cheer the Sox in a positive way and try to overlook the fact that they have a big problem in the worst time of the season.
With the Monday night loss to the Devil Ray the Sox's showed that their bats are dead. Loosing a 1-0 game to a basement team on your HOME turf is quite sad.
Ok enough negative stuff ( plenty of other blogs will have that) .
Here is to taking taking 2 out of 3 from the Rays and I will start praying to the Blue Jay God that they take at least 2 game from the MFY.
Wake is on the mound tonight and is due for a sure win, I tip my hat to you Wake, in advance of your spectacular victory later today.
The picture was taken by me during the 2007 Spring Training game between the Tigers and Sox in Lakeland, Fl. I think the main issue discussed here was where should they go after the game for pizza and beer!!!

An Angelic win!!

The Sox won game one of the double header today with an outstanding first major league pitching appearance by Clay Buchholz . Congratulations you young whipper snapper you!!! It's great to see how well the Red Sox farm system is working. I hope Ellsbuy get a chance to play in center field for game two. He is another bight light in the farm system. Manny was hit twice today... good way to get on base. Takin one or two for the team. Good news is he was not hurt. Mirabelli was injured in the 1st, pulled calf muscle I guess forcing Tek to play. I wonder if Tek will play in the second game or will a PawSox catcher be called up? We shall see. Ortiz wacked a beauty of a homer into RF for a two run homer. Very nice!! Love the was he hits the long ball. Not to be left out Pedroia smacked a ball into the Green Monster seats!!! EXCELLENT!!!
Willy Mo is no mo're. To the Nationals he goes. Sorry it did not work out Mr. Pena. Best of luck to you in the National League.
Game 2 starts at 7:05 2-night!!!! Lets hope for another win and keeping our 6 game lead against the MFY's or increasing it!!
