5 foot WHAT?????

So today I check out the active roster on redsox.com (copied below ) to see what changes have been made.
I read somewhere that Kyle Snyder was sent down.... well I'm a bit out of the loop lately with the wife in the Hospital and all....

So I'm looking at the heights listed and man , the team is tall!!! Everyone is 6 foot or more EXCEPT for the Mighty Mite...he is listed at 5 foot 9 inches. (Becket is the tallest at 6 foot 5 )

Is that right?

Dont really care how tall he is. He is a great player and has all ready earned him self a spot in every member of RSN's hearts!

Lot of talk he was 5 foot 4...... wonder what it is.

Maybe one of the bloggers who live in Boston can clue us transplanted ( and HOT ) southern folk to whats what.

After all inquiring minds want to know!

OH. And Kyle Snyder?
As of the 7th Snyder was designated for assignment.

Wonder what will happen to him??

Ball???? What ball???? OH THAT BALL!!!!!

See that guy in the picture above, to the left??

The one jumping up and down???
( Not Rent-a-wreck )

Thats Doug Mientkiewicz.

He is the guy that Red Sox pitcher Keith Foulke tossed the ball to make the final out of the 2004 World Series.

Well he was a ...cough cough...a Yankee ..cough..cough.... last year..

Yesterday he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates so he is no longer a member of the EE~~~ and that is a good thing.

He will be fighting for a position in the Majors with Pittsburgh. If he does not strut his stuff in Spring Training he will be shipped off to the Minors.

He was out for half of the 2007 season with the Yankees due to a minor collision with Mike Lowell at 1st base on the June 2nd game.... oh well ...thats what happens when you go play for the Yankees!!!!
( Heaven be praise that Mikey was un-harmed during the mishap)
And I might add that the accident happened because of a lousy throw to first from Jeter!!!
The wild throw caused Doug to enter the field of play on Lowell and Lowell had no time to alter course thus smacking his pal in the head with his thigh!!!
Dougies head snapped and a few other things snapped and he was driven off the field in the crash cart!!

So Dougie...hope thing pan out for you and you make a lot of PIRATE BOOTY!!!

IF you remember that Doug kind of kept that final out ball and would like to read a funny article about it well click HERE!!!

What is this man thinking?

Photo borrowed from Amalie Benjamin Globe Staff

Perhaps he's thinkin' ' Man....3 MILLION bucks ..for one year!!! And next year....even BIGGER bucks...like.. 6-8 MILLION!!!!!!!!! ..Yea..thats the ticket !!!!!! '

And he's thinkin' .. ' I'm in the money...I'm in the money!!!! '

And good for him.

He has earned it.

After bustin' his butt last year at first and winning a Golden Glove for a mere $424,500.00.

I am glad to see him back.

Just think how boring it would be with out him......

1) The spectacular plays at first where he gets the out even on balls thrown to him which were way of course.... I remember a few space balls thrown by Lugo which Youk stopped from flying into the stands and ...God forbid I say this..a couple from Lowell!!! ( Yes, I love Mikey, but he is human after all!!)

2) Watching all that sweat pouring from his helmet..even when it 60 degrees out.

3) Watching him shoot dirty looks to the Ump on questionable balls....

4) Watching him slam his helmet down when called out by said umpire on a questionable strike...

5) Seeing him cuss up a storm when he is ticked.

6) Watching him go after a pitcher crazy enough to throw a ball inside a bit too much........like flying over his hunched up back too much!!!!!

Youk and the Sox finally signed the contract on the 10th of Feb. Geesh it took a while.

I was surprised to see only a 1 year deal but thinking about it he has the chance this way to earn a ton of coin down the road..... heck even Lugo made 8.25 Million last year.......can you believe that??? Playing like he did (Lugo) and making that much money???? Cripes!!! There is only about 3 and a half years difference between them.... Maybe Lugo should give Youk 50 Grand for every bad throw he heaves at 1st and Youk saves from hitting some poor fan behind first.... It could be called....a Performance Penalty ( and for Youk..a Performance Bonus).

Well any way...CHEERS and HATS OFF to you, Youk!!!! You started out as a 3 baseman and have found Heaven and Earth in the RSN as a First baseman!

May this contract be just the first of many with the Red Sox!!!!

YYYYOOOOOOUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deal is Sealed: Our Boys are Safe!!

A collective sigh of relief rippled through the RSN tonight when it was announced that the deal between Johan Santana and the Mets has become official.

Johan only has to pass a physical on Saturday.

His deal has given him a six year extension to his existing contract which will be $137.5 Million plus a $7 Million signing bonus on his 2008 salary. So he gets a tad over $150.7 over seven years which is about $22Million per year.......

The Mets fans must be in 7th heaven this evening with a team that is a sure WS contender.

We in the RSN can sleep well tonight knowing our boys (Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester, Jacoby Ellsbury, Justin Maserson , Jed Lowrie and possibly Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo) are safe and sound in the RED SOX Crib!!!

LUGO goes to the Mets!!!

Well, had some of you Lugo haters going for a second!!

No its not Julio Lugo but his little brother Ruddy!

He was snatched up for the Athletics on Wednesday.

This plucky right-handed reliever finished 6-0 with a 5.40 ERA in time split between the A's and Rays during the 2007 season.

With the addition of Santana the Mets are poised to be a pitching powerhouse in the 2008 season.

Anyone remember when the 2 bro's were on the Rays together???
How about in 2007 when the Red Sox and the Athletics played and both brothers were the field....nothing like being in the batters box , having your little brother pitch to you while you are hoping he has forgiven you all the boyhood pranks you played on him........if I was Ruddy I'd be thinkin' BEANBALL!!!

Johan Santana goes to the Mets..Maybe

Tuesday Jan. 29th the Twins have come to an agreement that will have two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana go to the Mets for outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra.

Maybe...

Mr. Santana does have a no-trade clause with his contract with the Mets. He has until 5pm on Friday Feb. 1th to nix the deal.

So now that the Mets have ,to me, surprisingly satisfied the Twins front office. They now have to convey some numbers to Mr Santana which will make him happy. Few doubt the the contract will be below the $1oo million mark.

Do I want to see Santana go anywhere other that the Red Sox?
Well I would be a fool to say yes.
But we do have an Alpha Pitcher on staff right now, Mr. Beckett.
One thing for sure Mr. Santana is also an Alpha Pitcher also.
You put two Alpha males in a pen together and you know that they will have to prove which on is the higher Alpha.
They both are very aggressive in their game and are outstanding athletes.
So in a sense I would not like Mr. Santana to join the Sox.
I see disaster down the road.
Yes I know some of you are saying ...oh, their both professionals.. they will work together..... well they are human too and the human beast always wins out.
Just look at Jeter and A-rod.
They jockeyed for dominance and now do not like each other and that in its self caused strife in the clubhouse and the other players will take sides and poof.... a crappy 2007 season for the Yankees. They lost an edge and I do not wish that for our Sox.

Plus I would hate to see our young players and even Coco traded for Santana.
Some say that young Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury were just flashes in the pan last year.. well I would like to see them repeat here on our turf and not in Minnesota.

As long as the Yankees do not get him all will be right in the world.

Tickets Tickets My Kingdom for some Tickets

Well as most of you know single game tickets went on sale today. And a large percentage of you had the same results as I.

I got BUPKISS!!

I entered the 'system' promptly at 10am which was the starting time. That placed me in the virtual waiting room. It is a room of limbo..a step into the twilight zone..where your senses become numb from lack of interaction, lack of information and lack of effectiveness.
A button refreshes itself every 30 seconds and according to your position in line it decides to let you in or not....but another area on the page states it picks at random...so which one is it????

Exactly 2 hours and 23 minutes the screen finally changes allowing me to select a date , next I was able to pick location..Loge was the best available so I grabbed it. Then I picked the quantity, 2.....ok all is fine to this point. Shows the total..@ 186.00 for the two tickets.
I'm a couple of clicks away from nirvana at this point.
Then it asks if I would like another game. Heck sure I think to my self. So I click and bongo!!! I'm booted out..looking at my wallpaper and no tickets in sight.

Nirvana has just become Dantes Inferno!!!

Jump back into the virtual waiting room and well lets just say I never got back in finally giving up a 545 pm.
But while I was waiting the second time I decide to call the phone ordering system... after about 200 tries I finally get through. Of course the system is automated 100%. So I go through the list of required button pushing only to have the system tell me that due to the game almost being sold out it can not give me 2 lousy seats next to each other. SO I spend about 30 to 40 minutes trying other sections in other games in the time slot I needed and to no avail...even bleachers were separate seating......and then the systems says" encountered error 59..please call 555-555-5555 and tell the operator you had error 59...click....UGH!!!!!

All I can say is I was so upset and disappointed that I was ready to melt into a puddle of bubbling goo. I felt like I was 8 years old and being told that the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause were all shams. I felt like a 10 year old who's best friend just told him that they were moving out of state. I felt like a kid who just got a puppy that only comes near you to pee on your foot. I felt worse than Charlie Brown after Lucy yanks the foot ball away as he is trying to kick it.

So much for the pilgrimage to Fenway this year as the so called lottery that is coming up for the Yankee games will be so impossible to get that you would have better luck winning the lottery.

Life sucks..then you die!!!

Flashback 6-2-2007

Last night I needed a major RED SOX fix!!!!

I felt that if I could not watch a game to satiate my urge that I would become Jack Nickleson In 'The Shining" !!! Instead of saying 'Here's Johnny' my words would be
'Where's Fenway!!!'

Staring at last years calender, June 2nd looked good! A home stand and a win sandwiched between 2 losses to the Yankers......

My feeble memory also jogged this date as being one game to cherish.. and my failing memory was correct.

The game saw the following:

1) Mikey endearing himself even further to the RSN....his football take down of Cano...... his 3 hits and 4 RBI's.... a homer off the top of the green monster
( by this time in the season a lot of people were jumping on the 'we love mike lowell' bandwagon )

2) Youk's hitting streak ending at 23 games....he walked a crazy 3 times this game!!! Talk about patience:>)

3) Tek's center field homer...and his overall excellent catching....enough said!!! We all know how great he is.

4) Okie-dokie and Paps shutting down the Yankers.. with Okie getting the win.....

5) Schill perform poorly..raising the question yet again about his age...ability and stamina.... which also had the RSN wondering the 3R's for his future....Retirement, Relocation or Remaining... We know which on it is now!

6) Pena continuing to play like he has some where else he would like to be... and he did!!!

7) The mighty Mite banging away at Second base and in the batters box!!!! Always fun to watch!

8) Papi being his fun loving self.... monkey shining behind Francona during Tito's in-game interview..and Tito lovingly stating that he was goin' to kick papi's ass!!! Now THAT was funny!!!

9) Coco flying like Superman in Center field and between the bases.

10) Manny being intentionally walked too many times. Listening to the moronic sportscasters harping on Manny for having a pack of sunflower seeds hanging out of his back pocket..... geesh what a bunch of losers.

11) Having to look at A-rods puss WAY to much.........

12) Mientkiewicz having a close encounter with Lowell's thigh. Good thing he was not hurt too much. ( even better that Lowell did not get hurt!!) Even if he is a Yanker now...he is still a great guy and has not turned into one of 'them' as Roger did.

13) Final score?? 6-11....yes!!!!

I could go on and on...but I won't.

Did I get my fix???? well kind of.... watching an old game lacks the tension of a live game...the anxiety is missing . It is fun to watch and relive key plays and like watching a favorite movie over again allows you to see things you missed the first time around.

Now we only have to wait till March 1st for the first Spring Training game...........is it March yet??????
